Objectives

The aim of the course is twofold. On the one hand, it aims to teach students how to write an effective literature review for their dissertations and, in general, for scientific articles. On the other hand, it aims to provide them with a general understanding of review articles, focusing in particular on those applying a systematic approach.

Short Course Description

The course is divided into two parts. The first is dedicated to literature reviews for scientific articles and dissertations. Students are first given an introduction on the aims and relevance of literature reviews and then provided with guidelines on how to write an effective literature review.

The second part of the course is devoted to review articles. After a general introduction to the types of review articles, the course focuses on those adopting a systematic approach, i.e., systematic reviews, scoping reviews and meta-analysis. In this part of the course, students are given a step-by-step guide on how to conduct systematic reviews and meta-analysis.
